This is a very satisfying conclusion to the series. I will miss all these characters though! I hope we get a spin off soon! Thank you Celine!
I loved the end to this series though I hope more stories will be set in this world. I liked Rory finding more about her past and the hair cut mentioned in the book description was very funny. The characters remained engaging and Istill feel emotionally invested in them. I will be eagerly looking out for future books by this author.

As with others, I am sad this series is at end. I kinda feel I matured along with them. A fitted final, this book is though. A very grand read.
This is a fitting finale for this series. There's action and high stakes as our ragtag favourites attempt to take back Damsport from invaders. The action begins straight away, with a sabotage attempt failing due to the characteristic grudges of the Rookery folks preventing them from working together.
A lot of strands from previous books are brought back and tied up. We get to find out a little more about Rory's origins, and old foes with questionable loyalties reappear.
Some things did seem to get tied up a little too quickly at the end, but I was left with a smile on my face, sad to say goodbye to my favourite characters but knowing that there's so much more possibility for them (and maybe a new series?) on the horizon.
I truly recommend the whole Viper and the Urchin series if you enjoy light-hearted fantasy/steampunk. There's such a great cast of characters, banter, adventure, all tied up in fantastic, well-written stories.

Finale's are hard to read. When the characters have become near and dear to your heart, the last adventure is approached with trepidation. Will everyone get their HEA? Are you happy with the ending? Do you wish there were more? I've read my fair share of series finales of series that I loved, only to find the author totally messed up the ending.
And then there is The Rising Rooks. This book is really just another Viper and Urchin story. It includes all the usual wonderful, endearing characters, Rory, Longinus, Rafe, Cruikshank, Adelma, the Marchioness and all their colorful and varied associates: Susie the restaraunteer , Mercy the miopic horder/analyst, Tess the ever-patient, sweet-tempered maid, Kriss the owner of the Old Girls Arms, Rafe's father Lord Standarr and children Tommy, Pip and Alice. Also, old friends from Azyr: Urzo, Reheeme, and Tabir.
The usual suspects make their appearance also: Myran, Garata, Voynia. Though Myran is less a suspect now.
The Rising Rooks also bring together elements of the overall story arc that remind you have where you have been on this journey. The Rookery, Damsport, the trolley, the shipyards, the palace, the underground, Azyr, Airnia, The Old Girl's Arms, and Susie's coffeehouse.
Rory has always been a heroine. Whether it is her astute observations, her connections, or her unwavering support for her friends, Rory is the shining light in these stories. In Rising Rooks, Rory's mysterious history is revealed. Longinus is the unflappable fashion plate who's observations have been an unending source of both wisdom and hilarity. In Rising Rooks, Longinus comes face to face with what he has been searching for.
With the amazing characters, and colorful settings combined with the current plot that began with The Veiled War, the finale is a glorious conclusion to a wonderful series. I am sad to see it end, but I am also very happy with how it ended!
Thanks to the author who provided a copy of her book in exchange for my honest review.
There is no doubt that this book has action aplenty. Damsport in shambles. Our merry band trying to figure out what they should do in the aftermath of their storming of the Mansion, and quickly realizing that they do not have all the answers. They also come to understand that they aren't the only ones who have a stake in the fight for their city. I very much liked that no one group made all the right decisions, and that everyone had to make concessions and work together.
Overall, it was a very satisfying wrap up to the series. One that left me feeling happily content and sure that each of the characters I had come to know and love had found their right path forward.
I received a free copy of this book for my honest review, but would have bought it anyway because I would have needed to know what happened to all my favorite characters.
A wonderful finish, and still looking forward to more
A very enjoyable read, and a great ending to the story arc. I read for entertainment, relaxation, and for a break from the real world. the-rising-rooks had just the right combination of humour to make me laugh, excitement thats well paced, and happy endings for most of the main characters. I do love happy endings.
The storyline? Damsport is at a crucial point in its rebellion, where internal strife threatens defeat before the rebellions truly begun. Old friends make unexpected appearances, and new friends form new relationships. Old conflicts and issues are finally resolved.
This is the final book of this story arc, but Im so happy that Celines left room for the opportunity of future adventures.
If youre new to the series, I do think its helpful to read the series in order. The first book is the-bloodless-assassin, and the first 3 books in the series are available in a box set for a great deal (The Viper and the Urchin). For free shorts about Rorys background and how she grew up, or an adventure she has with Longinus and the Assassins Guild, check out Celine's webpage.

It is not as easy as you might suppose running a revolution, even when you have talented amateurs like Rory, Rafe, Longinus, Adelma, and Cruikshank plotting the course.
This book, the last in this wonderful series, is full of delightful characters we have encountered in the past as well as several new ones to keep things interesting. They help, challenge, hinder, generate an advantage, undermine, and confuse.
Still, we can’t but have confidence that despite all difficulties, our band of heroes will win through in the end. Don’t miss the rousing finish to The Viper and the Urchin with all its ups and downs.
A quick fun wrap up to the Viper And the Urchin series. Most character arcs were concluded though it was done so a bit to quickly, it felt rushed as so many series do at the end. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with how things go in this book. Much of the action is glossed over, as if you were reading the characters diary.
As I said before most characters stories came to a nice end, there's of course room for more but you're not left pulling out your hair screaming "but what about...!" One of the characters is most definitely destained for another series and I sincerely hope the author followers through.
If you're reading this review years from now go find that next series, while this may not have been a 5* book I still have every intention of reading more from the author.

I keep thinking this series can't get any better, and Celine Jeanjean proves me wrong yet again.
Rising Rooks is simply fantastic. All of my favorite characters in one amazing book, working together, though not always smoothly, to overcome oppressors with much greater weaponry and clout than they ever had.
I loved every minute of this series and and so sorry to see it end.
If you like a bit of humour in your steampunk fantasy, you will absolutely love this book and the whole series.
Highly recommended!
The Rising Rooks continues to describe the precarious situation in Damsport which had started in The Veiled War. The Marchioness is still held captive by old enemy, Garrata, but Rory and her friends intend to disarm the explosives beneath the city’s foundations. Of course, nothing is ever straight forward and Raif is unimpressed when his father turns up intending to take over the battle.
Despite such dangerous events, the budding romance between the elegant Longinus and coffee-shop owner Susie makes slow progress. Even Adelma begins to allow someone new into her life. It is good to read the continued banter and disagreement between Rory and Longinus and there is a revealing development about Rory’s parentage.
This book completes the tales of the Viper and the Urchin which I have enjoyed enormously. The range of vivid characters are engaging and despite the steampunk setting they are genuine. I would love to meet Rory and the handsome, Raif. I might be nervous of Longinus but it would be great to peek into his exotic wardrobe.
I can highly recommend Book One, The Bloodless Assassin, so that you can follow this thrilling series and I am hoping that there will still be some further developments foe Rory in the future.

This, the ninth and final book in the Viper and the Urchin series, wraps things up in a most satisfactory way with old friends (and enemies) making appearances to help defeat Garrata and her allies (or not, you'd better read the book if you want to know if that happens). Better yet, it answers a question that's been bugging me ever since the first book; why the heck does Rory, a girl, have what I always thought was a boy's name? It's a small thing, but the question has bothered me through eight and a half books until, finally, an answer! Now I have an answer, the name doesn't bother me anymore so for that reason alone I'd give this book a hearty recommendation.
If you've had the misfortune to read one of my reviews of the earlier books in the series, you'll have suffered through me harping on about the heart, humour, adventure, and good pacing, all the things that make a good book in my opinion. This instalment keeps all those good things coming in the perfect mix and brings the various characters to the end of their journeys in the manner they deserve. In fact the only bad thing to say about this book is that it's the end; the last book and once it's over you have to say goodbye to the Viper, the Urchin and all their friends. Or at least most of them, as there are hints there may be a "spin-off" series sometime in the future.
